On Wednesday with Mother Goose Time we discussed how we care for our cat and fish and how we would like to add a dog to our family. My oldest favorite pet is a cat and my youngest favorite pet are fish. Then the girls drew pictures of the animals in the “I Love My Pets” book. After that the girls “Build A Bird”
Later on they fed the cat and the fish. Then we talked about dogs training.
On Thursday, we talked about outdoor chores. The girls played a board game called “Building a Home.” The girls enjoyed this because they were adding and subtraction pieces of the house they put together.
Later on we did the “Poop Scoop” game. I wrote letters on the rocks and hid them. Then they would go look for them and scoop them up.
On Friday, we talked about how we welcome guest that come to our home and created a welcome sign.
Connecting Themes with Skills
The area IÂ saw my children show an increase of interest was in Math.
1. Number concepts – The girls had to measure how much food and water to give the cat and fish. The “Building the Bird” game because they had to roll the die and match the number with the body part on the key. Â The other game that really had their interest was “Building a Home” because they were adding and subtracting pieces to create a house.
I think Pretend play under a month-long umbrella allows children to put what they’ve learned into action. It supports a child’s fine and  gross motor skills, language and it encourages  social skills.
